Some companies would say that, above all, they are committed to RESULTS. That’s not a bad goal. Results matter, and companies (or people) who don’t value results will (and should) eventually be fired. But there's a significant difference between understanding that results are essential and believing that results matter more than anything else.

Results are Essential. They aren't Everything.

Believing that results are essential means that someone understands business. Without producing results you’re not producing profits. You’re not sustainable and thus not contributing to community, producing good for customers, or providing sustainable work for employees.

Believing that results matter more than anything else is what has given the debt collection and debt recovery industry the reputation it has. When people hear “debt collector” or “collections” they think of people incessantly pestering them, intentionally misrepresenting themselves, or condescendingly addressing them. People resist (and flat-out avoid) interactions with “debt collectors” because of these negative impressions built over many years.

At Viking Client Services, we have a few things that we have determined matter more than results:

People

People matter more than results. It's why our account representatives, who are charged with the task of recovering past due balances and reconciling debts, are respectful and empowering. It’s why we go out of our way to collect feedback on interactions, and it’s why we train our employees to abide by the golden rule in each conversation…to treat others the way they themselves would want to be treated if they were on the other side of the phone call. No shady tactics. No demeaning interactions. 

People deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Always. They matter more than results.

Ethics

Who we are matters more than what we do. The manner in which we do business matters more than our financial position at the end of the day. Integrity in every interaction matters, because our goals at Viking are not only that we produce results but that we do so in a way that has left our community, our clients, and our customers in a better place. This requires that we be honest, empowering, and responsive. It requires that we employ capable and coachable people who will represent our values in each interaction. It requires that we build an internal culture that rewards hard work done right.

The integrity with which we run our business matters more to us than any results an account representative may deliver.

Some things matter more than results…things like people and integrity. That principle has steered Viking Client Services for 50 years of good work in a tough industry. It will guide us into the future as well.
