Let’s face it. Debt collection has a tough reputation. People don’t want to hear from us, and that’s not entirely without reason. On one hand, when a member of our recovery team contacts you, it probably means that you’re going to end up paying out some money. But some end up avoiding us altogether because of the reputation that this industry has. Every few months, a story hits local or national news about a lawsuit or shady business practices from a collection agency. Someone pretending to be legitimate uses manipulation and dishonesty to collect funds — whether legitimately owed or not.

 

It makes working in our industry especially difficult. We’re not just trying to distinguish ourselves from competitors or alternative business models. And we're not just working to overcome assumptions and stereotypes. We’re competing against some dysfunctional, unhealthy, and sometimes even unethical businesses.


Integrity

Since the day we opened our doors, we’ve never once run our business by any of the standards often associated with the collection industry. It’s how we’ve continued to grow, continued to thrive, and continued to engage employees in meaningful work. But the efforts we take haven't entirely stopped the negative messaging. We still face bad reviews. We still have people claiming "Viking Client Services is a scam!"

On one hand, we work hard to communicate the truth in each situation. On the other hand, we also know that we can't keep every negative impression of debt collection from impacting our brand. We just keep leading with our integrity, and trust that the next 50 years of Viking Client Services will be as good as the first 50.
